This Thanksgiving, families and friends across the country will sit around the dinner table and consider the things they are thankful for. In a world that pushes us to want more than we have, it’s nice to actually appreciate the abundance already in our lives.
Still, there is always a place for dreams in Thanksgiving. You don’t need to break a turkey bone to get a wish come true. You can do that all by yourself. Dreams are on the menu this Thanksgiving, and here’s how you can achieve yours:
Pick A Dream
If you are like most people, your head is filled to capacity with dreams. You may imagine yourself traveling to every country in the world, starting your own business, or running for local office. These are all great dreams, but you only have so many hours in the day. A secret to high productivity is prioritization. Pick one big dream that has been burning in your heart and commit to achieving it.
Internalize The Dream
Most dreams float around in our heads like sad ghosts. We see them as “dreams” and therefore consider them unrealistic and unachievable. Once you pick a dream to pursue, it’s time to start revving up your belief. Internalize the dream. Make it real in your mind and your heart. Believe in every fiber of your being that you will accomplish your dream even if you don’t know quite how you’ll get from Point A to Point B. This belief is the only way you’ll start taking actions that will lead you, eventually, to success.
Break It Down
Big dreams usually take a big effort and many, many steps. It can seem overwhelming when you think about where you are right now and then consider where you’ll need to be to achieve your dream. You may wonder, “Where am I going to get the money?” “How am I going to learn what I need to learn?”
Your next task is to create an action plan that will map out the steps it will take for you to achieve your dream. Ask yourself, “What is the first step I need to take? And then what’s next?” Once you’ve broken it down into digestible steps, your path will be much clearer.
Get To Work
The last major thing you need to do to make your dream come true is to take action. Taking action transforms your dream from a wispy thought into a real goal. Use your action plan to guide your next steps. Take teeny tiny steps if you have to, like buying a travel book, emailing an inspiring figure in the field you want to pursue, or putting $25 into a new savings account. Every step you take increases your momentum and your belief, and eventually all your thousands of steps will add up to an amazing achievement!
